Rebati Tripura accuses Tipra Motha of betraying Janajati people with false Greater Tipraland promises, alleging constitutional deception, corruption in TTAADC, and predicting electoral defeat in 2026 ADC polls.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Janajati leader and former Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Rebati Tripura on Wednesday launched a sharp political offensive against the Tipra Motha Party, accusing it of betraying the tribal people of Tripura by making misleading and constitutionally impossible promises over the past five years, especially on the contentious issue of Greater Tipraland.

Addressing a public programme at Thalibari near the ADC village market, Rebati Tripura alleged that Tipra Motha had deliberately misled Janajati voters by projecting unrealistic assurances during the 2021 Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections. He claimed that the party’s leadership failed to deliver any tangible results despite sweeping electoral gains.

Without naming Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma directly, the former MP questioned the leadership credibility of the party’s supremo. Rebati Tripura alleged that the leader lacked both constitutional understanding and cultural grounding, stating that he neither comprehends the Kokborok language adequately nor understands the provisions of the Indian Constitution.

“Those who project themselves as great leaders have repeatedly deceived the tribal people with hollow promises. The so-called assurance of Greater Tipraland was nothing but a calculated political deception,” Rebati Tripura said while addressing the gathering.

The event was organised by Kathalia–Mirza–Rajapur MDC Padmalochan Tripura, during which sports equipment and clothing were distributed among local residents. The programme witnessed the presence of party leaders, local representatives, and villagers from surrounding ADC areas.

Recalling the 2021 ADC elections, Rebati Tripura stated that Tipra Motha had sought votes by promising to bring a bill in the Autonomous District Council to secure Greater Tipraland. He asserted that even after five years in power, the party failed to explain how such a demand could be constitutionally fulfilled.

“There is no provision in the Indian Constitution that allows the creation of a separate state or Greater Tipraland merely by passing a bill in the ADC. Even after five years, they could not show any constitutional roadmap for their promise,” he said.

Rebati Tripura argued that the misleading narrative around Greater Tipraland created unrealistic expectations among tribal youth and voters, ultimately resulting in political disillusionment. He accused Tipra Motha of exploiting tribal sentiments for electoral gains without any genuine commitment to development or constitutional reform.

The former MP further alleged rampant corruption within the Tipra Motha-led TTAADC administration. He claimed that serious financial irregularities were taking place at Khumulwng, the council headquarters. According to him, development projects originally valued at Rs 9 crore were allegedly inflated to Rs 14 crore on paper.

“This kind of financial mismanagement and corruption has crippled development in ADC areas. Funds meant for tribal welfare are being siphoned off under the present administration,” Rebati Tripura alleged.

He also criticised the overall governance performance of the Tipra Motha-led council, stating that basic infrastructure, employment generation, and youth empowerment remained largely neglected despite repeated assurances.

Predicting the political future of Tipra Motha, Rebati Tripura asserted that the party’s ambition to return to power in the 2026 ADC elections under the current leadership would be “completely shattered.” He expressed confidence that tribal voters would hold the party accountable for unfulfilled promises and alleged corruption.

“The Janajati people are now politically aware. They will not forgive betrayal and false promises. The 2026 ADC elections will expose the reality of those who misused tribal aspirations,” he said.

The programme was also addressed by BJP Sepahijala (South) district general secretary Prasenjit Ghosh, Janajati Morcha state committee secretary David Debbarma, and MDC Padmalochan Tripura. All speakers strongly criticised the Tipra Motha-led ADC, accusing it of administrative failure, corruption, and political opportunism over the last five years.

The speakers reiterated that genuine development of ADC areas could only be achieved through transparent governance, constitutional clarity, and cooperation with the state and central governments. They urged tribal voters to reject divisive politics and support development-oriented leadership.

The event concluded with the distribution of sports equipment and clothes, symbolising BJP’s outreach efforts among tribal communities ahead of future elections.
