Bhadradri Kothagudem district in Telangana has received the Open-Source GIS Cohort Award for utilising the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for public life efficiently. District collector Jitesh V Patil received the award at an event held in Mumbai yesterday. The district got the prestigious award for effectively using the GIS to address the public issues, including predicting the Godavari River flood, skilling, and converging data from various departments. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Patil informed that cotton and maize farmers are being diverted with the help of GIS to take up the Moringa (Drumstick) crop.
