One BSF jawan was shot dead when suspected NLFT militants opened fire at a border patrolling party on Friday morning. The incident took place in Simna -two area along Tripura-Bangladesh-Mizoram border under Anandabazar police station in North Tripura district.
Slain border guard Havildar Gribesh Kumar of 145 Battalion of the BSF was flown from the spot by a BSF Chopper and was admitted in a city hospital. He succumbed to his injuries.
The suspected NLFT militants who had been reportedly roaming in the extreme border and forested land for the last few days ambushed the BSF patrol from across the border in the morning. As the NLFT Militants opened fusillade of automatic firing the border guards personnel were taken by surprise and Havildar G Kumar was hit fatally. He sustained several billet injuries. As the other BSF jawans took position and retaliated heavily the NLFT militants escaped from the spot.
As the news came the BSF headquarters sent a chopper to bring in the injured.
A senior police officer here said that the NLFT group was moving in the area and they were planning to carry out some sort off operations on Independence Day but could not pull it off due to intense vigil and police arrangements. However, they did not leave the area and were moving in the forested land. The BSF was also accordingly alerted.
The area where the ambush took place was on extreme border and under the BSF jurisdiction. There is also a TSR post a little far from the area.
In the meantime, a man hunt was launched though the militants were on the other side of the border and out of reach from the Indian forces.
