Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Thursday met Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan and discussed issues relating to law and order and recent political violence. Roy Barman said, he met the new DGP on a courtesy visit as Ranjan was his old acquaintance.

During his meeting with the top cop Roy Barman mentioned about the recent politically motivated attacks and assaults on the opposition party workers and leaders including himself.

“ Our discussion mainly dwelt on the prevailing situation of the state and I asked the DGP to ensure peace and address the law and order situations in the state”, said the Congress MLA adding that the police chief assured him of taking appropriate measures in this regard.

Roy Barman also mentioned that state police started denying permission for political rallies or meetings of the opposition parties citing one or the other reasons while the ruling BJP does not face such denial.

He expressed his anticipation that with the assembly elections drawing near political violence would intensify and the situation would also turn volatile.

“The DGP assured me that he would look into matter and take the right decision”, the Congress MLA said.

It may be mentioned here that Roy Barman was assaulted several times in recent past and once his PG’s firearms was also taken away allegedly by BJP workers.

Ranjan has taken over the charge of state police recently. He had been posted with the Intelligence Bureau for a long time and had served in foreign countries.
