A Sudip Roy Barman supporter as counting trends became clear
Ruling BJP is leading in three constituencies 8-Bordowali, 46 Surma and 57 Jubarajnagar but has fallen behind the Congress in prestigious 6 Agartala, according to the latest trend available.
What however is remarkable that in all the constituencies the latest trend shows the fight was virtually closed to BJP and Congress and the difference of votes is not a big one.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha is on the lead in 8-Bordowali which is, of course, not really surprising because people seldom ensure defeat of a sitting Chief Minister. But the shocker that has come for the ruling party is Congress candidate and former minister Sudip Roy Barman’s move towards the assembly. Roy Barman was a BJP minister and he left the party for his difference with former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. Now, he is going to return with a bang. That, sends an alarming signal for the BJP. Roy Barman after his resignation from the BJP has effectively managed to become an opposition face this time and his victory will obviously enthuse the opposition to fight it hard in next assembly polls.
In 46 Surma BJP’s Swapna Das Pal and in 57 Jubarajnagar BJP’s Malina Debnath are also leading. Going by the trend in Surma TIPRA Motha has failed to make any impression.
The counting results hitherto shown make it clear that for other opposition parties Trinamool Congress has failed to put up any impressive fight and CPM has , somehow, retained some following in Jubarajnagar, though, as it seems, will have to give away its stronghold to BJP.
The by-poll to the four constituencies has been seen as the prelude to the next assembly elections and considering the trend- that shows narrow margin of votes between the BJP and Congress the ruling party will have reasons to be worried.
On the other hand the results of Sudip Roy Barman will definitely infuse fresh blood and spirit in the Congress before the assembly elections 2023, if only the Congress leaders’ traditional and typical squabble does not resurface.
The Left Front seems unable to make much of headway and will have to remain happy in third position -except perhaps Juabarajnagar.
The counting on Sunday began at 8 am under massive security arrangements and so far there was no report of any untoward incident.
