In view of the increased violence let loose by the TIPRA Motha activists in almost every day restricting other political parties’ activities, Tripura police has swung into action arresting 10 persons so far and bringing many others under scanner.
The police had to take action as the situation due to TIPRA Motha leaders’ constant instigations that turned the situation in several parts of the state highly volatile.
Police said, 10 persons were arrested in connection with Thursday’s incident when Janajati Welfare minister Rampada Jamatia visit to Simna on Friday was disturbed.
“Stringent action will be taken against the leaders and supporters who are indulging in instigating innocent tribal people especially women,” Tripura Police warned in an official press release.
 According to Tripura Police, Chief Executive Member of TTAADC Purna Chandra Jamatia has allegedly posted an audio message in social media and asking their supporters particularly youth and women wings to organise protest rally against three BJP leaders- MP Rebati Mohan Tripura, minister Rampada Jamatia and Patal Kanya Jamatia.
“As a consequence to this message which has become viral in Social Media, Tipra Motha supporters led by their women wings created disturbances to the programme of Hon’ble Minister and others on 10/06/2022 when they were attending an administrative camp at Darogamura High School under Sidhai PS of West Tripura District,” the press release reads.
Legal action against Puma Chandra Jamatia is being examined, the release said.Â
Tripura Police also said, 26 persons were served notices in connection with the Taidu incident where confrontation between BJP and suspected Tipra Motha supporters was reported on June 8 last. There were attempts to attack MP rebate Tripura during the incident.Â
Besides, on June 9, a group of women, reported to be Tipra Motha supporters staged road blockade and unauthorized processions to prevent an indoor political programme of BJP at Bukhribadal Community Hall at Jampuijala. Janajati Welfare Minister Rampada Jamatia and BJP state vice-president Patalkanya Jamatia were attacked when they reached near 7th-Bn TSR HQr at Jampuijala. The protestors were armed with brickbats and lathis etc.Â
The Police and security personnel rescued the leaders unhurt and in the process five police personnel sustained injuries and two vehicles were damaged. Eight persons were served notices in connection with the attack incident.
