This is a story right from the movies. A ‘dead man’ who was already ‘cremated’ comes walking straight to home when his last rituals -shraddha- was being performed.  Akash Sarkar – a 22 years old drugs addict might have given all his family members, relatives, neighbours at Kalkalia, Bamutia, and , yes everybody a shock—a pleasant shock at that- when he returned home safe and sound but the return of the prodigal son also raised serious questions at police functioning that smacked of negligence and lackadaisical way of handling things- here unclaimed bodies.

On June 3 last a dead body was fished out of Melarmath pond and was kept in the morgue. However, somehow police came to know the corpse was of one Akash Sarkar, son of Ankan Sarkar of Kalkalia in Bamutia. Accordingly Ankan Sarkar was called and the body was ‘identified as that of Akash’.  After ‘identification’ the body was duly cremated.

Since it was an abnormal death the Shraddha was to be performed within three days and on June 6 the family maintaining all religious norms was performing the last rituals of Akash. It was then the unexpected happened. Akash returned.

Now, the million dollar question that is being raised that then who was the person whose body was fished out of Melarmath pond and cremated ?

Ankan Sarkar now claims, Battala out post police forced him to identify the body as his son’s.

coming under alleged pressure from Police, he relented and agreed to accept the body.

“I noticed that body was much bulkier compared to my son and the clothes on the body were also not matching. After a serious hardship, I managed to collect money required to cremate and perform the last rites”, Ankan Sarkar said.

In the meantime, Akash who happens to be a drugs addict was blissfully unaware of what was going on.  He would often leave home without informin anyone and would not return for days.

Akash said, he used to roam around Battala and beg money from the people. With the money collected he would go for alcohol, ganja or other stuff.
