With by-polls nearing political situation is also turning volatile with every passing day.

While there were reports of aggressive overtures on the part of the political activists in various areas of the state, tension ran high in Taidu areas on Tuesday as BJP and TIPRA Motha supporters came face to face  over a joining programme.

Police had to intervene before the situation went out of control. The skirmished did happen in front of Lok Sabha MP Rebati Tripura who was supposed to attend a programme where some TIPRA Motha supporters were scheduled to join the BJP.

However, the TIPRA Motha activists went highly aggressive and put up road blocks since to prevent the MP from going to the venue.

“There was a joining programme of Bharatiya Janata Janajati Morcha in Taidu Community Hall. In an attempt to disrupt the joining programme, Tipra Motha workers blocked the road since the morning and they also attempted to stop my vehicle with lathis which is undemocratic,” the MP wrote in his official Facebook handle.
In the meantime, many of BJP Janajati Morcha workers also gathered at the area and stand off ensued, situation turned highly volatile.

It was then the police took action and fired tear shells to disperse the gathering.
Tripura condemned the TIPRA Motha and added that 689 voters of other political parties had joined the ruling BJP during the programme.

There were also reports of attacks and tension in Jirania areas as some unidentified but suspected to BJP activists attacked a local Congress leader’s home.

The Opposition CPM also staged road blockade in Radhanagar in the city heart as they were prevented from fixing campaign materials.
