Tripura’s Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Ratanlal Nath, announced on Thursday that the state’s Legislative Assembly will transition to an online format for submitting questions starting from its next session, likely to be held in January. Nath shared this update following an all-party meeting chaired by Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen, where members discussed the challenges of implementing the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs’ eVidhan Sabha initiative, which aims to digitize legislative processes.

During the meeting, some technical difficulties were noted with the digital submission of questions, a feature that was tested in the last assembly session. Despite these initial hurdles, the assembly remains committed to making the question submission process fully online, reflecting broader efforts to modernize and streamline parliamentary procedures.

Key attendees included Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Paul, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Opposition Leader Jitendra Chaudhuri, Chief Whip Kalyani Roy, Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma, Congress MLA Birajit Sinha, and representatives from various political parties. They reviewed the eVidhan Sabha’s operational gaps and emphasized the need for continued technical improvements to facilitate a smooth digital transition.

The move toward online submissions aligns with a nationwide shift in legislative digitization, which seeks to enhance accessibility and efficiency in government proceedings.
