The discovery of convicted inmate Dilip Debbarma, found hanging inside Bishalgarh Central Jail, has raised serious concerns over the prison’s security and functioning.
Early on Wednesday morning, other inmates found Debbarma’s body, prompting immediate action by local police officers, including SDPO Dulal Dutta and Officer-in-Charge Sanjit Sen.
While initial investigations suggest suicide, Debbarma’s fam ly has rejected these claims, alleging foul play. According to the family, Debbarma had uncovered sensitive information regarding illegal activities, particularly drug smuggling, inside the prison. They believe this led to his murder, implicating some prison staff in the illicit operations.
The body was removed in the presence of a magistrate and sent for autopsy at Bishalgarh Subdivision Hospital. Demanding justice, the family has called for a CBI investigation into Debbarma’s death, citing distrust in the local authorities’ ability to conduct a fair probe.
