In a celebration of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Tripura Police organized a Bicycle Rally for Unity in Agartala today. The event aimed to promote unity, public safety, and environmental sustainability, drawing around 50-60 cyclists from various parts of the city.

The rally, which began at the Police Ground and concluded at Astabal Ground, was graced by several high-ranking police officials and dignitaries. It emphasized the role of cycling as a sustainable and eco-friendly mode of transport, underlining its positive impact on environmental conservation and public health.

During the event, Gopesh Debnath, founder of the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation, proposed the idea of establishing bicycle patrol units in Agartala. He highlighted the success of the “Green Winners” e-cycle patrol team in West Bengal’s Purba Bardhaman district as an inspiring model, urging Tripura Police to implement a similar initiative in the city, especially during festivals and in crowded areas.

“Bicycles can play a vital role in crime prevention in congested areas, allowing officers to navigate narrow lanes efficiently. They are not only environmentally friendly but also boost community policing efforts,” Debnath said, advocating for the initiative.

Senior police officials, including IGP L Darlong, AIGP Prabir Majumder, and SP (Anti-Narcotics) Rati Ranjan Debnath, were among the attendees. In recognition of their contributions to cycling and community welfare, IGP L Darlong presented the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation with a token of appreciation.

The rally concluded with a collective pledge from participants and officials to continue promoting cycling as a safe, sustainable, and healthy lifestyle choice. This event symbolized the potential of cycling to unite communities, protect the environment, and enhance public safety, paving the way for future collaborative initiatives in the region.
