Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha expressed deep concern at the way human trafficking, smuggling and other border related crimes were on the rise. While attending a meeting with BSF, Tripura Police and other related agencies, the Chief Minister did not hide his displeasure and expressed surprise as to how so many Bangladeshis and Rohingyas could cross over to India using Tripura border with impunity.
The meeting was attended by among others Chief secretary J K Sinha, DGP(Intelligence) & ADGP L&O Anurag Anurag, BSF DIG S K Sinha, and other officials.
CM Dr Manik Saha expressed his concern on recent rise in infiltration of Bangladeshi into Indian territory.
Dr Saha asked the BSF and other forces and agencies to take effective steps to stop all the illegal activities on the Indo- Bangladesh border. All the necessary assistance will be provided by the State Government for this purpose, he assured.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to take appropriate action against the culprits involved in providing shelter to further facilitate them to cross the border illegally. S K Sinha, DIG BSF stated that availability of man power on border due to general parliamentary election and deployment of BSF troops in Manipur was reduced. He stressed on the concerted efforts with all the agencies for identification of touts and action against them. The DIG BSF also told the meeting that BSF was under process of installation of electronic gadgets for border surveillance at vulnerable patches. Several other issues were also discussed during the meeting.
DGP(Intelligence) Anurag said, around 500 touts on the bordering areas had been identified by Special Branch and already 170 touts had been arrested by District Police in last one year.
As many as 215 cases were also registered in 2023 alone and 772 illegal infiltrators were detained. In 2024 so far, 99 cases were registered and 399 illegal infiltrators were arrested.
