Tripura government is going to set up state’s first Breast Milk Bank in the IGM hospital . Officials said a plan is afoot in this regards and the matter has already been put in the pipelines.
Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine- Dr. Radha Debbarma said, “Some mothers face shortage of breast milk post-delivery. The proposed Milk Bank will collect and store breast milk in a scientific way and it will be used to feed the neo-natals when needed.”
Dr. Debbarma said, the proposal has already been placed under Programme Implementation Plan (PIP) through National Health Mission and the new facility would be introduced once the proposal is accepted.
Besides the breast milk bank, she said, another plan to introduce pacemaker installation facility in the IGM hospital is also being contemplated.
MLA Dr. Dilip Das, who inspected the IGM hospital on Wednesday, said the online registration facility would soon be launched in the IGM hospital.
Das, who is chairman of the Rogi Kalyan Samity of the IGM hospital, said the 118-year old hospital had almost lost its glory but the present government took various steps to revive it.
“We are trying to introduce as many services as possible in the IGM hospital to reduce the stress on the GBP hospital. Online registration facility will soon be introduced for the convenience of the patients,” he announced.
He also said, the electricity connection of the hospital would now be linked with the VIP line to ensure 24×7 power supply and another plan to construct a circular road is also under progress.
According to Das, the plan for setting up a super specialty structure with Orthopaedic, Eye, Pathology and Disaster Management units in the hospital has been stalled due to Covid pandemic. If the government takes further decision, it would be made functional and an MRI unit would be installed next, he said.
