Agriculture Minister Ratanlal Nath addressed allegations on Tuesday regarding the lack of work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC). Speaking at the Secretariat, Nath dismissed the claims of scarcity of work and food in the ADC areas as false and confusing, stating that these allegations were intended to misguide the people of the state.
Nath proceeded to share details about the MGNREGA works that have been implemented in 14 ADC villages under the Mungiakami block. This was likely an attempt to provide transparency and refute the accusations of inadequate employment opportunities in the tribal areas.
In response to another incident involving the alleged sale of a baby girl, Nath provided information about the recovery of the child. According to Nath, on November 24, the child was rescued from the house of one Ranjit Tripura at Laxman Para of Paschim Karbook ADC Village and subsequently reunited with her parents. Both the baby girl and her mother are reportedly undergoing treatment at the Teliamura sub-divisional hospital.
Nath highlighted the actions taken in response to the incident. Following the recovery of the child, instructions were given by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to the District Magistrate of Khowai, directing the hospital authority to make necessary arrangements for the well-being of both the mother and the child.
Additionally, instructions were issued to the Block and Sub-Divisional Administration to facilitate the issuance of records such as Record of Rights (RoR), Ration Card, and MGNREGA job card for the Jhumiya family. The administration is also considering a plan to provide land ownership (Patta) and benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to the family, according to Nath’s statements.
