West Tripura has achieved significant progress in its immunisation drive, with 10,242 children fully vaccinated against a target of 10,710 for 2025-26. Health officials reviewed vaccination programmes, measles preparedness, and MR vaccine coverage, emphasizing awareness, disease prevention, and timely completion of immunisation targets across the district.

West Tripura district has made remarkable progress in its child immunisation programme, with 10,242 children already receiving complete vaccination against a target of 10,710 children set for the 2025-26 financial year. The achievement was highlighted during a review meeting of the District Task Force and Urban Task Force on Immunisation held on Monday at the Conference Hall of the West Tripura District Magistrate’s Office.

The meeting was organised under the initiative of the West Tripura Health and Family Welfare Society to assess the progress of various vaccination programmes being implemented across the district. Senior health officials, administrative officers, and frontline healthcare workers participated in the review session and discussed strategies to further strengthen immunisation coverage.

Among those present at the meeting were Additional District Magistrate Arup Deb, West Tripura Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, officials from rural hospitals, primary health centres, sub-health centres, and Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers from different parts of the district.

Addressing the gathering, Additional District Magistrate Arup Deb emphasized the importance of timely and effective implementation of vaccination programmes. He urged all stakeholders, including healthcare workers and field-level staff, to carry out their responsibilities with dedication and commitment to ensure that immunisation targets are achieved within the stipulated timeframe.

Officials representing various health centres presented detailed reports on the progress of immunisation activities in their respective areas. The review focused on vaccination coverage, challenges faced during implementation, and measures required to ensure that no eligible child is left out of the programme.

Speaking at the meeting, West Tripura Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shankar Chakraborty informed that a total of 698 individuals suspected of suffering from fever and measles had been tested across the state. Of these, 236 affected children are currently undergoing treatment in hospitals, and all are reported to be in stable condition.

Dr. Chakraborty further stated that only three cases of measles and fever had been detected in West Tripura district. He noted that all affected individuals have fully recovered, reflecting the effectiveness of timely medical intervention and disease surveillance measures undertaken by the health department.

The CMO stressed the need for continued vigilance and called upon healthcare workers and ASHA workers to intensify awareness campaigns regarding vaccination and disease prevention. He said that public awareness remains a crucial factor in maintaining high immunisation coverage and preventing outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases.

Highlighting the district’s achievements, Dr. Chakraborty revealed that the target for the current financial year is to fully immunise 10,710 children by March 31, 2026. With 10,242 children already vaccinated, the district is nearing its goal, while efforts are underway to cover the remaining beneficiaries.

He also informed that under the ongoing financial year, a target has been set to administer the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine to 1,17,349 children aged between nine months and ten years across the district. Of this number, 48,113 children will receive vaccination through a special campaign under the Supplementary Immunisation Activities (SIA) programme.
