The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall over Kerala till tomorrow. An orange alert has also been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka today.
The IMD also said that isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Haryana till the 24th of this month. Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning will continue at many places in Northeast India for the next 7 days.
Meanwhile, in Delhi-NCR, the weather department has forecast a generally cloudy sky with light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning for the next five days.
In Kerala, the India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in five districts, including Malappuram Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod districts today. A holiday has been declared today in educational institutions in Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod districts. An orange alert has been sounded for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Palakkad districts today. Fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea off Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts till 22nd of this month.
In Uttarakhand, the India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in some regions tomorrow. A red alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, and Champawat districts.
Additionally, a heavy to very heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Monday in the districts of Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, and Haridwar. Other parts of the state are also likely to experience rain during this period. In view of the forecast, residents have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
