The VB-G RAM G Act 2025 has come into force nationwide, guaranteeing 125 days of rural employment with over 10 percent higher wages. The Centre increased average daily wages to Rs 327.4 and allocated Rs 95,692.31 crore for seamless implementation across India.
The Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission – Gramin (VB-G RAM G) Act, 2025, officially came into force across India on Wednesday, marking a major policy initiative aimed at strengthening rural livelihoods, expanding employment opportunities, and increasing wage support for millions of workers in villages. The implementation of the new legislation introduces a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment for eligible rural households while also raising notified daily wage rates by more than 10 percent across the country.
According to an official statement issued by the Government of India, the Act has been designed to make rural employment more effective, transparent and outcome-oriented. It also seeks to accelerate the creation of durable rural infrastructure, promote conservation of natural resources, improve agricultural productivity, support livelihood generation and encourage women-led development in rural areas.
With the nationwide rollout of the Act, the Centre has notified revised wage rates for all States, Union Territories and notified wage areas under the VB-G RAM G Act, 2025. As a result, no notified daily wage in the country will now be below Rs 300.
The government stated that the national average notified wage has increased significantly from Rs 298.8 per day to Rs 327.4 per day, representing an average enhancement of more than 10 percent. The revised wage structure is expected to improve income security for rural workers while boosting participation in employment generation programmes.
Several states have witnessed even higher wage revisions under the new framework. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh have recorded wage increases ranging between 15 and 25 percent, offering substantial financial relief to rural labourers in these regions.
To facilitate smooth implementation of the Act from the very first day, the Central Government has released an interim allocation of Rs 95,692.31 crore to States and Union Territories. The financial allocation has been made to ensure uninterrupted employment generation, timely wage payments and efficient execution of development projects under the new rural employment framework.
Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the enactment of the VB-G RAM G Act represents a transformative step in India’s rural development journey.
He stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the legislation is not merely another employment law but a comprehensive initiative that aims to bring dignity, self-respect and livelihood security to millions of rural workers across the country.
The minister further said that all administrative, financial and technical preparations required for implementing the Act have already been completed jointly by the Centre and State Governments, ensuring a seamless transition to the new system.
Expressing confidence in the programme, Chouhan said the Act would generate new livelihood opportunities in villages, accelerate the creation of durable community assets, strengthen women’s empowerment and contribute significantly towards achieving the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat and a Viksit Rural India.
He also appealed to citizens to actively participate in building prosperous, empowered and self-reliant villages by supporting the objectives of the new rural employment legislation.
To commemorate the nationwide implementation of the VB-G RAM G Act, 2025, the Government of India will organise a National Launch Programme on July 2, 2026, at Mukkavaripalle Village in Obulavaripalle Mandal of Tirupati district in Andhra Pradesh.
The programme will be attended by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan along with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and other senior government officials.
During the launch event, the government will formally inaugurate the VB-G RAM G programme, distribute Rural Employment Guarantee Cards to eligible beneficiaries, unveil the dedicated VB-G RAM G software platform and release several key publications related to the implementation of the Act.
