



Even as Gandacherra went up in flames following communal violence and wild tension administration swung into action and took several steps including measures to prevent gathering under the relevant sections of the new laws.
Since Friday midnight there was no report of any more untoward incident and the situation in reported to have been brought under control. Nevertheless, reports also indicate that situation is volatile and could flare up if not properly and adequately handled and addressed in time.
Additional forces had already been deployed in the sensitive and vulnerable areas with senior Police officers camping on site. Restrictions were also put on internet use in the district.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha was monitoring the situation closely.
TIPRA Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has gone to Gandacherra and spoke to the villagers at Jagabandhupara on Saturday morning . He, however, did neither go to the villages where Bengalis were affected and lost homes. He was accompanied by Purna Chandra Jamatia, CEM, Runel Debbarma, EM, Dolly Reang, EM, Rajesh Tripura, EM, Paul Dangshu and Bhabaranjan Reang.
In Agartala BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee said the state government and the ruling party as well were determined to prevent further escalation of the unfortunate situation.
“I have already spoken to our leaders there and they were also trying hard to bring peace and harmony”, he said and added that a delegation of the BJP would be also visiting Gandacherra under the leadership of senior party leaders.
In the meantime, instructions were also sent to the District Magistrate and SDM Gandacherra to provide adequate relief and rehabilitation supports to the affected families whose houses were set afire and had to flee to forests to escape the murderous mobs.
Police have also arrested some trouble mongers but actions are being taken cautiously so as to pre-empt any further fall out.
