Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) issues a strong public warning against rising fake job offers circulating online. Officials urge job seekers to remain alert, avoid fraudulent calls demanding money, and verify employment information directly with TSECL offices.
The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has issued a crucial public advisory after alarming reports emerged about fraudulent job offers circulating in its name. Over the past several weeks, job seekers across Tripura have been targeted through fake advertisements, misleading social media posts, and fraudulent phone calls promising employment opportunities within the corporation in exchange for money.
Authorities confirmed that these scams are being operated by unidentified miscreants who are attempting to exploit unemployed youths by offering non-existent positions in engineering, technical, and administrative departments under the guise of TSECL recruitment drives. These deceptive messages, officials said, are intentionally crafted to appear authentic and often contain fabricated details that mimic official notifications.
A senior official from TSECL addressed the matter, clarifying that the corporation has not issued any such job advertisements recently and that all recruitment announcements are released exclusively through authorized government channels. The official emphasized that TSECL does not demand money or any form of payment for appointments, interviews, or selection procedures.
“We request everyone not to be misled by fraudulent phone calls or job advertisements on Facebook and other social media platforms. These are entirely false and unauthorized. TSECL follows a transparent recruitment process and never asks candidates for money,” the official said. He also urged citizens to remain cautious and verify the authenticity of any employment-related information by contacting TSECL offices directly.
Modus Operandi of the Fraudsters
According to preliminary reports, scammers have been approaching job hopefuls through social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram, often using logos resembling that of TSECL to appear legitimate. Some victims reported receiving phone calls from individuals impersonating TSECL officials, asking for payment under the pretext of “registration fees,” “document verification charges,” or “appointment confirmation.”
These fraudsters have also been distributing fake job circulars with fabricated signatures and seals to convince unsuspecting applicants. In many instances, the scammers disappear once the victims make the payment, leaving job seekers financially cheated and emotionally distressed.
TSECL Emphasizes Public Vigilance
In its advisory, TSECL reiterated that the corporation will not be responsible if any individual falls prey to such fraudulent schemes. Officials encouraged citizens to report suspicious job-related communication to the nearest police station or directly to the TSECL complaint cell for further investigation.
“Public cooperation is essential to curb these fraudulent activities. Anyone who comes across dubious job offers using TSECL’s name should immediately inform the authorities,” the official added. He further stressed that the corporation’s genuine announcements are always published through official government portals, newspapers, or the TSECL website.
Growing Trend of Recruitment Scams
Cases of fake job offers using the names of government departments, public sector undertakings, and private companies are increasingly being reported nationwide. Fraudsters often take advantage of unemployment challenges to lure youth into paying large sums with the promise of lucrative jobs. Authorities across India have repeatedly issued warnings about the rise of digital deception, particularly on social media.
Cybercrime units have also observed a surge in recruitment-related frauds involving impersonation of officials from educational boards, public utilities, banks, and railways. The accessibility of social media and messaging apps has made it easier for criminals to approach job seekers, disguise their identities, and disappear without trace.
Appeal to Job Seekers
TSECL urged applicants to adopt a cautious approach when dealing with job offers. Individuals should cross-check every piece of information from credible sources and avoid sharing personal or financial details with unknown callers. The corporation reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining transparency and fairness in all official recruitment procedures.
