Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) launches its first Migration Support Center in Bengaluru to assist DDU-GKY trained rural youth with safe accommodation, smoother urban transition, and employment support, reinforcing Tripura’s commitment to skill development and livelihood security.

The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) has set up its first-ever Migration Support Center in Bengaluru. The initiative aims to support newly placed candidates under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) as they transition from rural Tripura to urban workplaces.

The Migration Support Center has been designed as a temporary support facility for newly recruited candidates, offering food and lodging during their initial days in the city. Officials stated that this intervention will help reduce migration-related stress, ensure safety, and enable young workers to settle into their new professional environments smoothly before moving to permanent accommodation.

The infrastructure of the Bengaluru-based center was recently inspected by TRLM Chief Executive Officer Tarit Kanti Chakma, IAS, accompanied by Additional CEO Subrata Majumder, COO (Skills) Dr. Sankaraj Roy, COO Dr. Dipayan Ghosh, and other senior officials. During the inspection, the leadership team reviewed accommodation facilities, basic amenities, and logistical arrangements to ensure the center meets the needs of migrating youth.

According to TRLM officials, the Migration Support Center will function as a safety net for rural candidates, particularly those migrating to a metropolitan city for the first time. The center will provide guidance on urban living, workplace culture, and essential services, thereby reducing vulnerability and helping beneficiaries adapt to city life with confidence.

Coinciding with the launch of the Migration Support Center, TRLM also organized an Alumni Meet in Bengaluru, bringing together youths from Tripura who are currently employed across various sectors in the city. Many of these alumni shared experiences of professional growth and financial stability, highlighting how they are now able to support their families back home.

The Alumni Meet was attended by Chief Guest Tanushree Debbarma, IAS, along with CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma, COO Program Dr. Dipayan Ghosh, COO Skills Dr. Sankaraj Roy, State Mission Managers from Tripura, the COO Karnataka, and the Regional Director of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). As a mark of recognition, alumni were felicitated with Risha, the traditional Tripuri attire, along with bags, acknowledging their achievements and perseverance.

TRLM officials revealed that under the DDU-GKY program, an expenditure of Rs 93 crore has already been incurred towards skill training and placement of rural youth. The scheme targets individuals aged 15 to 35 years, focusing on industry-relevant skills, sustainable employment, and long-term career progression. Special emphasis is placed on disadvantaged and marginalized groups to ensure inclusive growth.

The DDU-GKY initiative aligns with national missions such as Skill India, while tailoring its approach to the socio-economic needs of Tripura’s rural population. With high placement rates and increasing alumni success stories, the program has emerged as a key driver of livelihood augmentation in the state.

Officials emphasized that the establishment of the Migration Support Center, combined with alumni engagement, reflects the Tripura Government’s commitment to empowering rural youth, ensuring safe migration, and strengthening the linkage between skill development and employment security. The initiative is expected to serve as a model for similar support systems in other metropolitan cities in the future.
