TRLM signs MoU with IIM Calcutta Innovation Park to incubate 150+ women-led enterprises, boosting rural entrepreneurship, innovation, credit access, and sustainable economic growth under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission framework.
In a landmark move to accelerate rural entrepreneurship and women-led economic growth, the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the IIM Calcutta Innovation Park. The agreement marks a significant step toward strengthening grassroots enterprises and building a sustainable ecosystem for women entrepreneurs across the state.
The MoU was formalized in the presence of senior officials from the Rural Development Department, Government of Tripura, reflecting the administration’s commitment to inclusive and innovation-driven growth. Under this partnership, incubation institutions will be established in rural areas to support more than 150 women-led enterprises operating in both manufacturing and service sectors.
Officials stated that the initiative is designed to provide structured and professional mentoring to emerging entrepreneurs. The incubation centers will assist women in refining their business models, strengthening financial planning, improving product design, and enhancing branding and marketing strategies. Special emphasis will also be placed on improving access to institutional credit and facilitating linkages with broader markets.
The collaboration aims to transform self-help groups and small-scale rural ventures into scalable, competitive enterprises. By leveraging the expertise and innovation ecosystem of IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, grassroots entrepreneurs will gain exposure to professional guidance, advanced business practices, and networking opportunities with investors and industry experts.

This initiative aligns with the broader goals of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), which seeks to alleviate rural poverty through self-employment and skill development. By creating a replicable incubation model, Tripura aspires to set a benchmark for other NRLM states, positioning itself as a pioneer in women-driven economic transformation.

Government officials emphasized that empowering women entrepreneurs has a multiplier effect on rural economies. Beyond increasing household incomes, successful women-led enterprises contribute to job creation, skill development, and community resilience. The program is expected to generate substantial local employment opportunities, particularly in underdeveloped and remote regions.
Experts believe that structured incubation support can significantly reduce the failure rate of early-stage enterprises. With improved infrastructure, digital tools, and market intelligence, women entrepreneurs in Tripura will be better equipped to scale operations and expand beyond local markets. The integration of innovation and rural enterprise development is expected to accelerate inclusive growth across the state.
