Tripura to Boost Kharif Crop Production and Empower Farmers
In a determined push to strengthen agricultural productivity ahead of the Kharif season, the Tripura Agriculture Department is set to roll out an intensive campaign under the banner of ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’. Scheduled to run from May 29 to June 12, this statewide initiative aims to educate, equip, and empower farmers with modern techniques and climate-resilient solutions to achieve sustainable growth and improved crop yields.

The campaign was the central focus of a high-level virtual meeting held on Monday, where Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan conferred with Tripura’s Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath and senior officials. The meeting, convened at the State Secretariat, outlined the roadmap for transforming traditional farming practices with the help of technology-driven interventions.
Educating and Empowering Farmers at the Grassroots
Speaking on the initiative, Minister Ratan Lal Nath stated that ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ would serve as a platform to directly engage with the farming community across the state. A series of educational camps, expert-led sessions, and field-level demonstrations will be organized to introduce farmers to cutting-edge practices, new seed varieties, and climate-resilient strategies.

“This campaign is about more than just increasing crop output,” Nath explained. “It’s about ensuring that our farmers are aware of the tools and support systems available to them and helping them achieve greater self-reliance and financial stability.”
The campaign’s primary objectives include:
-
Promoting modern agricultural techniques and innovations in crop management
-
Distributing climate-resilient seed varieties to protect against erratic weather
-
Enhancing availability of fertilizers and improving planning through monsoon forecasting
-
Disseminating knowledge about state and central government schemes designed to benefit farmers
-
Maximizing efficiency in cultivation to narrow the gap between demand and supply
Multi-Departmental Collaboration and Field-Level Action
To ensure the campaign’s success, dedicated teams will be deployed at the grassroots level. These will include farm scientists, officials from the Agriculture Department, as well as experts from the Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD) and the Fisheries Department. Their collective mission will be to offer tailored advice, demonstrate new technologies, and assist farmers in adopting more productive and sustainable practices.
Additionally, ministers and officials from various state departments will be actively involved in outreach efforts, underscoring the government’s commitment to holistic agricultural development.
Vision for Growth and Farmer Prosperity
Minister Nath emphasized that boosting productivity is not solely about crop output—it is also key to raising farmer incomes. By ensuring better access to inputs, knowledge, and market linkages, the state hopes to build a more resilient and profitable agriculture sector. “We are working toward a future where farmers don’t just grow more—they also earn more,” he said.
In his address, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan echoed this vision, stressing the importance of building a globally competitive agricultural sector. “Since 2014, we have worked to increase production, reduce input costs, and secure better returns for farmers through an improved Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement system,” he said.
Looking ahead, Chouhan reaffirmed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to agricultural advancement, especially in his third term. “The focus will be on fast-tracking growth in agriculture, enhancing rural welfare, and ensuring long-term food security for the nation,” he stated.

A Step Toward a Resilient Agricultural Future
With the Kharif sowing window approaching, the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ signals a proactive and coordinated effort to support farmers when they need it most. Through widespread outreach, scientific support, and policy-backed encouragement, the initiative aims to build a resilient, productive, and farmer-centric agriculture ecosystem in Tripura.
As preparations gain momentum, the campaign is expected to reach thousands of farmers across the state—sowing not just seeds, but also the promise of a more secure and prosperous farming future.
