Authorities in West Tripura held a coordination meeting with puja organizers, clubs, and service providers to ensure a peaceful and safe Durga Puja. Nearly 600 pandals will be set up this year, with strict measures for traffic, security, and celebrations.

With the festive spirit of Durga Puja just around the corner, authorities in West Tripura are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the celebrations remain peaceful, well-organized, and joyous for citizens. On Thursday, a special coordination meeting was convened at the Agartala Town Hall under the initiative of the Superintendent of Police, West Tripura District. The gathering brought together not only senior administrative officials but also puja organizers, decorators, sound system providers, and representatives from various clubs across the district.

The meeting was chaired by West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar and Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, alongside other senior officers from the district administration and police department. Their primary objective was to establish effective communication channels between the administration and the puja committees, while addressing concerns related to security, crowd management, sound regulations, and logistical preparations.

Focus on Coordination and Safety

Speaking to the media after the meeting, SP Namit Pathak highlighted the importance of proactive engagement with stakeholders. “Durga Puja is the biggest cultural and religious festival in Tripura, attracting huge gatherings every year. Our goal is to identify gaps that may have existed in previous celebrations and work collectively to ensure that citizens can enjoy the festivities without facing any inconvenience,” he said.

Pathak emphasized that two-way communication was the key to resolving issues in advance. He assured puja organizers that the police would provide all necessary support for maintaining law and order, while also urging organizers to comply with security guidelines and cooperate fully with authorities.

Traffic and Crowd Management

District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar also addressed the gathering and spoke about measures to regulate traffic and ensure smooth movement during the five-day festival. “Depending on the size of gatherings and traffic flow, certain no-entry zones will be designated and announced in advance. This will help prevent congestion around major puja pandals and allow citizens to move freely,” he said.

The DM further explained that technical and logistical concerns such as sound system regulations, decoration safety protocols, and electrical arrangements were discussed thoroughly during the meeting. Clear instructions were given to sound system providers to adhere to permissible decibel limits, while decorators were urged to follow safety norms in their setups to avoid fire hazards or accidents.

Scale of the Celebrations

This year, approximately 600 Durga Pujas are set to take place across West Tripura. Among these, nearly 230 will be large-scale events, drawing massive footfalls, while the remaining will be smaller in scale. Recognizing the diversity of these events, the administration has categorized them to prioritize deployment of security forces, traffic personnel, and other logistical arrangements accordingly.

Dr. Kumar appealed to both organizers and the public to extend their cooperation to ensure smooth functioning. “Durga Puja is not only a religious festival but also a symbol of cultural unity and celebration. It is our collective responsibility to maintain peace and discipline so that everyone can enjoy the occasion,” he stated.

Appeal for Responsible Celebration

Both the SP and DM emphasized the need for responsible celebration. Organizers were advised to install CCTV cameras at large pandals, maintain proper emergency exits, and ensure that fire extinguishers are available at all venues. Citizens were urged to avoid overcrowding, respect traffic restrictions, and support police instructions during peak hours.

The authorities reassured that adequate police deployment, including special patrolling and vigilance teams, will be in place. Quick response units and medical assistance will also be stationed at key locations to tackle any unforeseen situation promptly.

Collective Effort for a Joyous Festival

The coordination meeting reflected the administration’s determination to ensure a safe, peaceful, and joyous Durga Puja. With participation from multiple stakeholders, including club representatives and service providers, the event underscored the importance of joint responsibility in organizing such a grand festival.
