The Unique Identification Authority of India, UIDAI, has launched a new Face Authentication Software Development Kit to simplify Aadhaar authentication for partner institutions and address geofencing restrictions affecting Indians travelling or living overseas.
Speaking at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, UIDAI Chairman Neelkanth Mishra said the new SDK will enable partner banks and businesses to run Aadhaar authentication locally on their own servers instead of routing requests through UIDAI’s central systems.
Mr. Mishra said Aadhaar authentication volumes have risen from around seven crore transactions a day a few years ago to nearly ten crore currently. He said UIDAI is preparing its infrastructure to handle 25 to 30 crore authentications daily. He added that more than 600 entities currently use the Aadhaar platform, while the Aadhaar app is nearing six crore downloads..
