Orange alert issued in Tripura with thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall expected. Authorities warn of strong winds up to 60 kmph in Khowai and West Tripura, urging residents to stay indoors and follow safety advisories.

Unsettled atmospheric conditions are expected to intensify across parts of Tripura over the next two days, as the regional weather office issues a high-level alert warning of thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and strong winds. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious as potentially hazardous weather patterns develop across the state.

The Meteorological Centre in Agartala has placed key districts under an orange alert, forecasting moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds, and isolated spells of heavy rainfall through April 29. According to officials, Khowai and West Tripura districts are expected to experience the most severe conditions, with wind speeds likely to reach between 50 and 60 kilometers per hour.

Weather experts have highlighted that while pre-monsoon thunderstorms are common during this period, the predicted intensity of wind gusts and lightning activity raises concerns about potential damage and safety risks. Falling tree branches, temporary structure collapses, and disruptions to power supply are among the possible consequences if the storm intensifies.

Local administrations have activated precautionary measures, placing disaster response teams on standby to handle emergencies swiftly. Authorities are closely monitoring low-lying and flood-prone areas where heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging or localized flooding. Emergency services have also been instructed to remain prepared for rapid deployment if required.

Residents in affected districts have been advised to stay indoors during severe weather spells and avoid open fields, water bodies, and areas with tall isolated structures such as trees and electric poles. Officials have also recommended securing loose outdoor items that could become airborne in strong winds, reducing the risk of injury or property damage.

Meanwhile, the rest of the state remains under a yellow alert, indicating the likelihood of thunderstorms and gusty winds of similar nature but with comparatively lower impact. Even in these regions, citizens are being urged to stay alert and follow official weather updates.

The evolving weather situation has prompted authorities to emphasize the importance of preparedness and awareness. With lightning strikes posing a significant risk during thunderstorms, people are encouraged to avoid using electrical appliances during peak storm activity and to seek shelter in safe, enclosed spaces.

As Tripura faces two days of unstable and potentially severe weather, officials continue to stress that timely precautions and adherence to safety guidelines can significantly reduce risks. The coming days will test the state’s preparedness, as both citizens and authorities work together to navigate the challenging weather conditions safely.
