Tripura Nears 100 pc Milestone in ‘Lakhpati Didi’ Mission, CM Saha Highlights Rural Livelihood Success at National Workshop

Tripura is on the verge of achieving a landmark in women’s economic empowerment, with nearly 95 percent of the state’s targeted “Lakhpati Didis” already created under the national rural livelihood mission. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha made the announcement on Thursday while inaugurating a two-day National Workshop on Integrated Farming Cluster (IFC) for the North Eastern States, held at a private hotel in Agartala.

Addressing delegates, experts, and officials, Dr. Saha said, “Out of the 1.14 lakh targeted Didis, already 1,08,281 women have become ‘Lakhpati Didi’, which is around 95 percent of the target. This achievement reflects the determination of our women, government support, and community solidarity.”

Integrated Farming Clusters to Drive Next Phase of Growth

The Chief Minister also underlined Tripura’s ongoing efforts to strengthen rural livelihoods through the Integrated Farming Cluster (IFC) model under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM).

He announced that the state has already launched activities for 80 Integrated Farming Clusters with an investment of Rs. 32 crore. Each cluster is designed to bring together 250–300 small and marginal farmers under one umbrella, connected with Livelihood Service Centres (LSCs).

These centres, he said, will provide collective services such as access to quality seeds, natural fertilisers, farming equipment, and market linkages. They will also help in aggregation of produce, ensuring better price realisation for Mahila Kishans—women farmers linked with Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

“To ensure sustained support, every IFC will have trained community resource persons like Krishi Sakhi, Pashu Sakhi, Matsya Sakhi and enterprise promotion specialists, who will guide and handhold farmers at every stage,” Dr. Saha explained.

Expanding the SHG Network

Tripura has made significant strides under the Self-Help Group (SHG) movement. Currently, the state has 4.85 lakh women members across 54,113 SHGs, 2,470 Village Organisations and 173 Cluster-Level Federations.

To strengthen these institutions, the state government has facilitated 2,628 Producer Groups and 118 Non-Farm Collectives, engaging women in diverse livelihood avenues.

Highlighting the financial support extended, the Chief Minister informed that women SHGs have so far received Rs. 1,677 crore in bank loans and Rs. 787 crore through Revolving Funds and Community Investment Funds.

“These resources have enabled SHG Didis to diversify into farming interventions, agro-ecological practices, piggery, goatery, poultry, fisheries, value chains, entrepreneurship, micro-enterprises, catering and canteen services, among others,” he said.

North East as ‘Ashtalakshmi’

Dr. Saha also invoked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of the North East as the nation’s “Ashtalakshmi”—a land of culture, opportunity, and growth. “Tripura is fully aligned with this vision. Our focus remains on building infrastructure, improving connectivity, and generating livelihoods for every section of society, especially rural women,” he noted.

The workshop, organised for North Eastern states, aims to exchange best practices and strategies for implementing IFCs more effectively across the region. Senior officials including Rural Development Secretary Abhishek Singh and CEO of Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) Tarit Kanti Chakma were present at the inaugural session. Experts stressed that the IFC model would be a game-changer in making rural households not just self-reliant but also income-secure.

Women-Led Transformation

Officials observed that the Lakhpati Didi initiative—designed to help women achieve an annual income of at least Rs. 1 lakh—has found remarkable success in Tripura due to the collective strength of SHGs. The programme not only uplifts individual households but also strengthens community-level institutions and rural economies.

Dr. Saha reiterated that the achievements of TRLM and SHGs in Tripura are a direct result of the relentless spirit of women members. “The story of Tripura’s rural transformation is being written by these women, who are balancing traditional livelihoods with modern economic opportunities,” he said.

As the state moves closer to achieving its 100 percent “Lakhpati Didi” target, Tripura is expected to emerge as a role model for other Northeastern states. With the IFCs set to expand further, the government hopes to ensure that women farmers gain not just higher incomes but also sustainable, diversified livelihoods rooted in collective strength.
