Tripura launches IHIMS digital healthcare system to ensure transparency, faster OPD services, ABHA integration, e-prescriptions, and telemedicine access. The initiative aims to modernize hospitals, reduce queues, and deliver efficient, data-driven healthcare across urban and remote regions.
In a major push toward modernizing public healthcare, the Government of Tripura has rolled out the Integrated Health Management Information System (IHIMS), a comprehensive digital initiative aimed at ensuring transparent, efficient, and easily accessible medical services for citizens across the state.
The ambitious programme is being implemented in all district hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals, rural hospitals, and primary health centres, marking a significant leap toward digitized healthcare infrastructure. The move is expected to enhance patient experience while streamlining administrative and clinical processes.
A key feature of IHIMS is the introduction of QR code-based outpatient (OPD) ticketing, allowing patients to quickly register and access their medical information without standing in long queues. The system is designed to simplify hospital visits and reduce waiting time, particularly in high-footfall government facilities.
The initiative also focuses on building a robust digital health ecosystem by creating electronic health records for every citizen. Doctors will be able to instantly access patients’ previous medical history, improving diagnosis accuracy and treatment efficiency. This integration is aligned with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), under which citizens receive a unique ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) ID for seamless healthcare access nationwide.
During a high-level review meeting held at the State Secretariat on March 2, 2026, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte emphasized the need for strict monitoring and flawless execution of the IHIMS rollout. He directed officials to ensure there is no negligence in implementation and highlighted the critical role of doctors, administrators, and healthcare workers in making the project a success.
The meeting was attended by senior officials including Dr. Debashree Debbarma, Dr. G. Sharath Nayak, Dr. Rajesh Anil Acharya, and Dr. Alok Dewan, along with representatives from Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL).
Earlier, on March 30, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the state government and BECIL to operationalize the IHIMS project. The partnership is expected to bring technical expertise and ensure smooth deployment of the digital infrastructure.
The system will also introduce paperless services such as online patient registration and e-prescriptions, significantly reducing paperwork and administrative delays. Another major component is the expansion of telemedicine services, enabling residents in remote and rural areas to consult specialists at leading institutions like Agartala Government Medical College, GBP Hospital, and IGM Hospital.

Healthcare experts believe that IHIMS will bridge the urban-rural healthcare divide by leveraging technology to deliver specialist care beyond city limits. The initiative is expected to significantly benefit citizens by improving access, reducing delays, and ensuring transparency in service delivery.
With the implementation of IHIMS, Tripura is positioning itself at the forefront of digital healthcare transformation in India, setting an example for other states aiming to build efficient, patient-centric healthcare systems.
