Tripura intensifies mission-mode Aadhaar drive with focus on child enrolment, biometric updates, and digital authentication. State-level UIDIC meeting reviews progress, targets low-saturation districts, and directs coordinated action to boost Aadhaar coverage and transparent service delivery.

The Tripura government has stepped up its mission-mode Aadhaar drive with a renewed focus on enrolling children and expediting biometric updates, aiming to strengthen digital governance and improve public service delivery across the state.

The State-Level Unique Identification Implementation Committee (UIDIC) meeting for 2026 was held in Agartala on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha. Senior officials from the Unique Identification Authority of India Regional Office, Guwahati, including Ngachan Zimik and Abhishek Koushik, participated in the review meeting.

Top officials from key Tripura government departments were present, including Rural Development, Health and IT, Food and Civil Supplies, Labour, Social Welfare, Education, and the Chief Electoral Officer’s office. The meeting focused on reviewing the current status of Aadhaar enrolment and identifying priority areas for accelerated action.

Upward Trend in Aadhaar Enrolment

Officials noted a steady upward trend in Aadhaar enrolment, data updates, and authentication usage across the state. However, the committee stressed the need for targeted intervention in specific segments, particularly among children aged 0–5 years.

A major decision taken during the meeting was to accelerate Birth Registration Based Aadhaar Enrolment at district hospitals, health facilities, and birth registration units. Authorities directed the Health Department to ensure optimal utilisation of Aadhaar enrolment kits and to integrate enrolment processes seamlessly with birth registration systems using Birth Registration Numbers.

Focus on Low-Saturation Districts

Six districts — Khowai, Sepahijala, Gomati, West Tripura, Dhalai, and South Tripura — were identified as low-saturation areas in terms of child Aadhaar enrolment. Officials instructed district administrations to prioritise enrolment drives in the 0–5 age group to achieve universal coverage.

The Education Department was directed to intensify Mission Mode Mandatory Biometric Update camps in schools to ensure that children complete their required biometric updates after attaining the prescribed age. The Rural Development Department has been asked to provide logistical and field-level support wherever necessary to ensure timely completion of the exercise.

Digital Verification and QR-Based Authentication

The meeting also discussed expanding Aadhaar-based authentication to improve transparency in service delivery. Departments were advised to explore digitisation of non-digitised state-issued documents and incorporate QR codes for easier verification.

The Information Technology Department has been directed to onboard as an Authentication User Agency, enabling broader use of Aadhaar authentication mechanisms in government services.

Officials highlighted the features of the new Aadhaar mobile application, which includes offline and QR-based verification, biometric lock and unlock facilities, and simplified onboarding for entities requiring offline verification. These features are expected to benefit institutions such as hotels and hospitals by enabling secure identity verification during check-ins and registrations.

Aadhaar Seva Kendra Relocated

To enhance public accessibility, authorities announced that the Aadhaar Seva Kendra in Agartala has been shifted from Motor Stand to Banamalipur, Jail Road, opposite Nazrul Kalakshetra. The relocation aims to provide improved infrastructure and better service experience for residents seeking enrolment and update services.

Coordinated, Time-Bound Action Plan

Concluding the meeting, the Chief Secretary emphasised the importance of coordinated, time-bound action by all departments in close collaboration with the UIDAI Regional Office, Guwahati. He underlined that comprehensive Aadhaar coverage, especially among children, is critical for ensuring seamless access to welfare schemes, educational benefits, and other essential services.
