Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha launches the 8th edition of Mukhyamantri Sustha Shaishab and Sustho Koishor Abhiyan (MSSSKA) to combat worm, vitamin, and iron deficiencies, targeting over 10 lakh children and adolescents across the state with enhanced health initiatives.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday launched the eighth edition of the Mukhyamantri Sustha Shaishab and Sustho Koishor Abhiyan (MSSSKA-8.0), a flagship state initiative aimed at tackling worm infections, vitamin deficiency, anemia, and diarrhea-related health issues among children and adolescents. The programme was inaugurated at Teliamura in the Khowai district, reaffirming the government’s commitment to creating a TB-free and healthier Tripura.
Saha, who also holds the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, said the MSSSKA campaign has been a homegrown initiative of the state government. “This campaign has been started to raise children and adolescents in a healthy and beautiful way, ensuring their proper health and nutritional development,” he said.
He highlighted that the programme’s objective is not only to protect children from worm infections but also to eliminate vitamin and iron deficiencies that are often responsible for stunted growth and poor immunity in growing children.
Targeting Over 10 Lakh Children and Adolescents
The Chief Minister announced that this year’s campaign aims to reach 10,59,182 children and adolescents, covering those from birth to 19 years of age. The state-wide drive, which began on Friday, will continue till October 30, with special focus on health awareness, nutrition, and hygiene.

“This campaign will include iron and folic acid supplementation for children aged six months to 19 years,” Saha said, adding that early detection of symptoms like breathing problems, diarrhea, and fever will be prioritised.
The MSSSKA is jointly implemented by the Health and Family Welfare Department, School Education Department, and Social Welfare and Social Education Department. It is held annually to ensure comprehensive health coverage for children in both rural and urban regions.
Focus on Mental Health and Anti-Drug Awareness
Apart from physical health, the Chief Minister stressed on the mental health and emotional well-being of children and adolescents. The campaign, he said, also includes cleanliness drives and anti-drug and anti-smoking initiatives.
“The government is conducting a state-wide anti-drug campaign. Police and other security agencies are constantly taking action against drug dealers,” Saha said. “Special attention will also be given to tea gardens, brick kilns, slum areas, orphanages, and private educational institutions under this campaign.”
He urged the people to join hands in eradicating drug addiction, which he said is becoming a major concern, especially among the youth.
Commitment to a TB-Free Tripura
CM Saha reiterated the government’s vision to make Tripura tuberculosis-free, noting that several health programmes have been undertaken to strengthen the state’s healthcare infrastructure. “We are continuously working to improve Tripura’s health sector with special emphasis on preventive healthcare and nutrition,” he added.
The campaign aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ensuring the physical and mental development of children, which the Chief Minister said is essential for the country’s future growth. “When our children are healthy and strong, our nation will be strong,” he remarked.
Raising HIV Awareness
In his address, Saha expressed concern over the rising cases of HIV in Tripura and called for greater awareness and behavioural change to combat the issue. “The problem of HIV/AIDS has become a matter of worry. People must be made more aware, especially about the dangers of using drugs through syringes,” he said.
He appealed to communities, schools, and NGOs to actively participate in awareness campaigns and ensure that young people are educated about the risks of unsafe drug use and unprotected sexual practices.
Towards a Healthier Generation
The MSSSKA-8.0 campaign reflects the state government’s continued effort to build a health-conscious and disease-free society. By integrating physical, mental, and nutritional health programmes, Tripura aims to empower its next generation to lead healthier, more productive lives.
