In a significant move towards providing support to families affected by political violence, the Tripura government has allocated government jobs to the kin of 15 victims who lost their lives before March 9, 2018.
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath made this announcement during a press conference held at the Secretariat on Thursday.
The state government, in a decision taken on December 23, 2020, pledged to provide employment opportunities to the families of those who fell victim to political violence. To facilitate the implementation of this welfare initiative, a scrutiny committee was formed.
According to Minister Nath, families impacted by political violence submitted a total of 26 applications.
Following a thorough examination and recommendations from the scrutiny committee, 15 individuals were deemed eligible and subsequently offered government jobs.
The scrutiny committee, reconstituted on June 14, 2023, with Ratan Lal Nath as the chairman and the Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department as the convenor, reviewed six applications in its recent meeting on December 7, 2023. Out of these, three families were recommended to receive government jobs.
Minister Nath urged families who lost their loved ones to political violence before March 9, 2018, but have not yet applied for government assistance, to approach the respective Sub-Divisional Magistrate offices and submit their applications in the prescribed form.
This project demonstrates the state government’s commitment to providing real assistance to people affected by political violence, with the goal of ensuring the welfare and well-being of afflicted families.
