In a stern move, the Superintendent of Police for Sepahijala district in Tripura, Bogati Jagadeeswar Reddy, has announced the withholding of salaries for eight police officers, including five sub-inspectors (SIs) and three assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs). The decision comes as a consequence of the officers failing to meet the targeted number of cases assigned to them over the last three months.

All eight officers, currently stationed at the Bishalgarh police station, were unable to dispose of the specified number of cases within the given timeframe. The district police chief’s action, outlined in an official order, cites negligence in the performance of duties as the reason behind withholding their salaries.

The nature of cases, including murders, rapes, and drug trafficking, is particularly concerning in the bordering Sepahahijala district, adjacent to Bangladesh. The region has witnessed a higher incidence of these crimes compared to the seven other districts in the state.

The move to withhold salaries has been justified on grounds of negligence in performing their duties to efficiently dispose of cases, as outlined in the Superintendent of Police’s order. The withholding of salaries serves as a tangible consequence for the officers’ failure to meet their responsibilities.

Tripura’s Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, has consistently emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes, especially those related to women and drugs. The stringent action against the police officers underscores the state’s commitment to maintaining law and order and upholding the principles of justice.
