NE India is poised to become a key player in India’s space technology journey, with the region emerging as a hub for innovation, testing, commercial applications and transformative solutions, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu said at the Northeast India Space Workshop 2026.
Northeast is poised to play a crucial role in India’s space technology journey, moving beyond being mere users of space-based technologies to becoming developers, testing grounds, and emerging to commercial markets for innovative space-enabled solutions.
This was stated by Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu while participating in the Northeast India Space Workshop 2026 on the theme “Leveraging Space Technology: Regional Transformation to Global Reach” at FREMAA, AWC, Guwahati, this morning.
The workshop was organised by the Space Industry Association of India (SIA-India) in partnership with the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC).
The Governor emphasized that the region’s unique geographical and developmental needs provide significant opportunities to harness space technology for transformative growth, improved public services, connectivity, agriculture, disaster management, and sustainable development.
He said that Tripura, along with its sister states of the Northeast, is poised to move from the periphery to the forefront of India’s space technology journey. He emphasized that the region is at a pivotal moment where science and technology can converge to create solutions that are scalable, sustainable and transformative.
He proudly highlighted that Tripura has launched the Northeast’s first Digital Forest Rights Act (FRA) Atlas, developed with the support of the Tripura Space Applications Centre (TSAC) as the technology and knowledge partner. The Governor stated that the initiative is more than just a technological achievement; it reflects a strong commitment to safeguarding the rights, dignity and interests of tribal communities through scientific planning, technology-driven governance and inclusive development.
The Governor further added that the use of geospatial and space-based technologies can help ensure greater transparency, efficiency and informed decision-making in the implementation of the Forest Rights Act. The workshop, organized as part of the National Space Day celebrations, aims to strengthen Northeast India’s contribution to India’s rapidly expanding New Space ecosystem.
The workshop brought together senior government officials, policymakers, industry leaders, academicians, startups and international partners. Discussions focused on how space-based applications can accelerate socio-economic development, improve public service delivery, foster innovation and entrepreneurship, and create new opportunities for the region’s youth.

The programme featured a welcome address by Dr. Subba Rao Pavuluri, President, SIA-India. This was followed by Special Addresses delivered by Pallav Kumar Jha, Secretary, Science & Technology, Government of Assam, and Dr. Srinivas Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Anil Prakash, Director General, SIA-India.
