In a najor boost to rural infrastructure, the Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned projects worth ₹69.65 crore for Tripura under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN). This is part of a larger investment of ₹620.63 crore aimed at strengthening rural road connectivity in the Northeast, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Odisha. The central initiative is focused on improving access to essential services and fostering economic growth in remote and tribal areas.

For Tripura, the approved projects include the construction of 26 rural roads covering 63.27 km and 2 long-span bridges, aimed at improving connectivity in tribal-dominated and underserved regions. The sanctioned infrastructure will not only help bridge the physical distance between isolated villages and urban hubs but also bring critical services like healthcare, education, and markets closer to remote communities.

The broader investment package includes significant allocations for other Northeastern states under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-III (PMGSY-III), reaffirming the Centre’s focus on rural development in the region:

  • Manipur will receive ₹225.15 crore for the construction of 41 roads measuring 280.97 km. Earlier, 56 roads of 502.24 km had already been sanctioned for the state under PMGSY-III with an investment of ₹404.72 crore.

  • Mizoram has been allotted ₹67.69 crore to build 7 long-span bridges totaling 373.46 metres. Previously, the state was sanctioned 17 roads (487.50 km) with an investment of ₹562.70 crore under the same scheme.

  • Himachal Pradesh will receive ₹140.90 crore for 21 long-span bridges (970.77 metres). This is in addition to 299 roads (3,123.12 km) and 43 bridges sanctioned earlier with a total investment of ₹3,345.82 crore.

  • Uttarakhand is set to get ₹40.77 crore for 9 long-span bridges (246 metres), adding to the previously approved 212 roads (2,287.95 km) and 9 bridges worth ₹1,865.34 crore.

Apart from Tripura, Odisha has also been included under the PM-JANMAN component, with 25 roads covering 84.35 km sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹76.47 crore.

According to the ministry, the aim of these initiatives is to significantly enhance rural connectivity, reduce geographic isolation, and integrate remote villages into the mainstream economy. The improved infrastructure is expected to facilitate the movement of goods and people, increase access to government services, and create new opportunities for trade, employment, and development in the tribal and border areas of the Northeast.

With this investment, Tripura stands to benefit from enhanced connectivity, better service delivery, and a stronger foundation for socio-economic transformation in its rural and tribal regions.
