A 35-year-old fertilizer trader, Suman Miah, from Boxanagar in Sonamura sub-division of Tripura, has mysteriously gone missing in Bangladesh, raising serious concerns for his family and local authorities.
Suman, a resident of Kakramura in the Kalsimura area of Boxanagar, crossed into Bangladesh through the Agartala-Akhaura Integrated Check Post on December 29. He informed his family that he planned to visit his sister’s home in Comilla, Bangladesh. His last known communication was with his wife on the afternoon of the same day.
The situation took a troubling turn on December 30, when Suman’s wife received a call from a Bangladeshi mobile number. The caller claimed that Suman had been detained by the police. However, despite the family’s immediate communication with their relatives in Comilla, no record of Suman’s detention was found in the local police stations. The absence of further communication from Suman deepened the family’s distress.
In desperation, Suman’s parents lodged a formal complaint at Kalamchaura police station, alleging that their son had been kidnapped in Bangladesh. They have appealed to the Indian authorities and the local administration to ensure Suman’s safe return.
This incident highlights growing concerns about cross-border safety and the challenges faced by individuals traveling between India and Bangladesh, especially in view of the present Bangladesh situation. The family’s appeal underscores the need for enhanced coordination between Indian and Bangladeshi authorities to address such issues promptly.
As of now, both the local administration and border authorities are expected to engage with their Bangladeshi counterparts to investigate the matter and secure the safe return of Suman Miah. This case has drawn significant attention, particularly in light of recent reports of security concerns and cross-border incidents affecting travelers.
