Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand eye final berth after securing India’s World Championships medal

In the BWF Badminton World Championships, the Indian women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will take on top seeds Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning of China in the semifinals at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi today.
The Indian duo stormed into the semifinals yesterday, defeating fourth seeds Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian of China 16-21, 21-15, 21-13. With this victory, Treesa and Gayatri have assured India of a coveted medal at the prestigious championship. Treesa and Gayatri also became only the second Indian women’s doubles duo to win a World Championships medal. Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa were the first Indian combination to achieve this feat when they clinched the bronze in London 15 years ago.
India’s women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have expressed happiness after securing their place in the semifinals of the BWF Badminton World Championships in New Delhi. Talking to the media, the Indian pair said they were delighted to convert their hard-fought victory into a semifinal berth. However, they stressed that the journey does not end here, with more crucial matches still to come in the tournament. Treesa and Gayatri also thanked the home crowd for its support, saying that the energy and positive vibes from the stands gave them an added boost on court.
Earlier in the day, the Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty crashed out of the tournament after losing to China’s Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang. The Indian duo went down to the fourth-seeded Chinese pair in straight games, 18-21, 9-21, in the quarterfinals.
