Union Home Minister Amit Shah virtually witnessed the destruction of drugs worth Rs 9.5 crore in Tripura, as part of a nationwide campaign. The event, organized by Tripura Police .
The National Conference on Drug Trafficking and National Security, chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on July 17, served as a platform to discuss the challenges posed by drug smuggling. Tripura Police took the lead in organizing a mega drug destruction program, which resulted in the obliteration of a significant quantity of illegal substances.
During the program, Tripura Police revealed that a staggering 5,473 kg of Ganja (cannabis), 5,138 bottles of Codine-based Cough Syrup, 19,313 Yaba tablets, and 6,381 grams of Heroin were destroyed. The approximate value of the drugs destroyed in Tripura alone amounted to Rs 9.5 crore.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing the gathering, underscored the grave consequences of drug trafficking, stating that it not only impeded economic activities but also jeopardized national security. He reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to adopt a “Zero Tolerance” policy towards narcotics, with the overarching aim of creating a drug-free India.
Shah applauded the efforts of Tripura’s law enforcement agencies in their relentless pursuit of eradicating drug-related activities. He urged all state governments and agencies to work in tandem, fostering cooperation and coordination, to accomplish the collective vision of a drugs-free India. With the destruction of drugs valued at Rs 9.5 crore in Tripura, the state exhibited its commitment to the cause, furthering the national campaign against drug trafficking.
This event marked another significant milestone in India’s fight against drugs, as the nationwide destruction of narcotics, including the substantial amount from Tripura, is believed to be booster for the country’s dedication to uprooting the drug menace and ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
