The state secretary of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Jitendra Choudhury, raised concerns of a conspiracy and political interference in the investigation of the alleged murder of Sub-Inspector Durga Kumar Hrangkhawal. Speaking at a press conference held at the party office, Choudhury expressed dissatisfaction with the disrupted investigation, which he claimed allowed the actual culprits to escape justice.

Choudhury asserted that the police investigation had failed to substantiate the charges against the accused individuals. He highlighted that seven people were arrested and linked to the incident, but they were later acquitted by the court. Furthermore, he alleged that the police did not seize the vehicle responsible for hitting and killing Sub-Inspector Hrangkhawal. Instead, he claimed that another vehicle was presented to divert the investigation. Choudhury also accused the then SDPO Souvik Dey of failing to make a General Diary (GD) entry despite being informed about the incident at the scene.

Sub-Inspector Durga Kumar Hrangkhawal lost his life in 2019 after being struck by a speeding vehicle, allegedly carrying drugs, in Kalamchoura, Sonamura town. Hrangkhawal had identified the vehicles and attempted to intercept the drug smugglers before the fatal accident occurred.

The CPI-M state secretary criticized the police investigation, highlighting the loopholes identified by the court. He suggested that there was a deliberate attempt by the police to provide a safe passage to the drug dealers who were inside the vehicle that caused the Sub-Inspector’s death.

During the press conference, Jitendra Choudhury also criticized BJP MLA Bhagaban Das for his alleged involvement in a scam related to the land acquisition of a tea garden and the tragic chariot incident in Kumarghat. Choudhury held MLA Bhagaban Das responsible for the last-minute route change of the Lord Jagannath Chariot, which resulted in the deaths of eight devotees.

The allegations raised by the CPI-M indicate a growing political controversy surrounding the investigation into Sub-Inspector Durga Kumar Hrangkhawal’s alleged murder, as well as the involvement of the BJP MLA in other incidents. The claims of conspiracy and political interference warrant a thorough examination to ensure justice and transparency in the investigations.
