Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced on Wednesday that the state cabinet has approved proposals to fill 153 vacancies in the Food and Civil Supplies and Education Departments.
“The state council of ministers has approved the recruitment of 153 positions in the Education and Food and Civil Supplies Departments. Among them, 118 positions for Post Graduate Teacher (Computer Science) will be filled through a written test conducted by TRBT, and the selected candidates will be appointed in Vidya Jyoti Schools. Additionally, 35 senior store guards will be recruited under the Food and Civil Supplies Department,” Chowdhury said. He further mentioned that JRBT will oversee the selection process for the store guards.
The minister also revealed that Assam has shown interest in adopting Tripura’s Public Distribution System (PDS) model.
“The Assam Chief Minister has dispatched a team of officials to study how Tripura has integrated lentils into the PDS. These officials met with my department’s director to seek guidance, and Assam has now decided to implement our model in their state,” he stated.
Addressing allegations raised by Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, Chowdhury responded, “Sudip Roy Barman is an experienced politician and should speak responsibly. In his speech, he suggested that someone else has access to the Food Department’s files and implied that I had personally expressed concerns about undue interference. However, these claims are misleading.”
Regarding the temporary suspension of spice distribution in fair price shops, Chowdhury clarified that it was due to pending tender-related procedures. “Implementing a decision requires time and adherence to due process to ensure legal validity,” he explained.
He further highlighted Tripura’s achievements in the Public Distribution System, stating that the state ranks first among the northeastern states and fourth nationally for its PDS performance.
