
Tourism Minister urges teamwork for swift development in Tripura

West Tripura Zilla Parishad held its general body meeting on March 12 at the conference hall of the West Tripura District Magistrate's office. Tourism Minister Sushanta Choudhury emphasized that seamless coordination between public representatives and government departments is crucial for the state's progress. He urged representatives of the three-tier panchayats to remain closely connected with the people to address their issues effectively.
Addressing the meeting, Minister Choudhury highlighted that active participation from both public representatives and government officials is essential for the successful implementation of various development schemes. He pointed out key sectors such as drinking water, education, housing, roads, electricity, agriculture, irrigation, social welfare, and industry that require special attention. To address drinking water concerns, a dedicated team will be formed to resolve supply issues in Mandai, Jirania, Belbari, and Old Agartala blocks.
Housing, Employment, and Social Welfare Initiatives in Focus
Dr. Vishal Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad and Deputy Commissioner of West Tripura District, urged government departments to collaborate with panchayat representatives for effective project implementation. He informed that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural and Urban), 47,000 houses have been constructed in Phase I and Phase II.
Additionally, the Social Education Department’s Inspector announced the approval for infrastructure development in 34 Anganwadi centers. At present, 85,599 people in the district are receiving social pensions.
The District Industrial Centre manager shared updates on employment schemes. Under the Prime Minister’s Employment Guarantee Programme (PMEGP), 309 unemployed youths are set to receive loans this fiscal year, with 143 loans already sanctioned. Similarly, under the Swabalamban scheme, 1,014 individuals are targeted for financial support, with 151 applications approved so far.
Solar Energy and Infrastructure Upgrades Underway
The Additional General Manager of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) reported that 2,144 beneficiaries have registered under the PM Surya Ghar Mufat Bijli Yojana, with successful implementation in 130 houses.
Officials from the Public Works, Education, Drinking Water and Sanitation, and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana departments also participated in discussions, reinforcing their commitment to achieving development goals for West Tripura.
