
Longest Tripura Assembly Budget Session in 15 Years Begins March 21

The Budget session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly is set to commence on March 21, with Finance, Planning, and Coordination Minister Pranajit Singha Roy presenting the 2025-26 state budget on the first day. The session, which will have seven sittings, will continue until April 1 and is expected to be the longest in the past 15 years.
Parliamentary Affairs, Agriculture, and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath stated that the Business Advisory Committee finalized the session schedule in a meeting chaired by Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen. The meeting was attended by key ministers, ruling party MLAs, Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, and former minister and Congress MLA Birajit Sinha.
The state government aims to facilitate detailed discussions on the budget and other crucial matters, encouraging maximum participation from both treasury and opposition bench members. The Tripura Assembly’s first session of 2025 was a brief three-day sitting held from January 10.
During the previous session, the Assembly passed a salary hike bill, significantly increasing the salaries and allowances of the Chief Minister, Ministers, Speaker, Leader of Opposition, Chief Whip, and MLAs by 81 to 92 percent. According to the new provisions, an MLA will receive retirement benefits even if they have served just a single day in office. The revised salaries now stand at ₹97,000 for the Chief Minister, ₹96,000 for the Deputy Chief Minister, ₹95,000 for Ministers, Speaker, Leader of Opposition, and Chief Whip, ₹94,000 for the Deputy Speaker, and ₹93,000 for MLAs.
