A severe nor'wester swept through seven districts of Tripura on Sunday, leaving a path of devastation and affecting hundreds of households. Addressing the media, officials from the Revenue (Relief, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management) department provided details of the impact and ongoing relief efforts.
The thunderstorm, hailstorm, heavy rain, and lightning struck 17 Sub-Divisions across seven districts, resulting in damage to a total of 800 houses. Of these, 62 were fully destroyed, 161 severely damaged, and 577 partially affected. Additionally, 42 locations experienced blockades due to fallen trees, electric poles, and wires, disrupting normalcy in affected areas. The power supply was disrupted in 205 areas, compounding the challenges faced by residents.
Tragically, one fatality due to lightning strike was reported in Udaipur under the Gomati district. The cause of death of another individual in Kakraban is currently under verification.

Quick response teams were mobilized to clear roads, remove fallen trees, and restore power lines.
Preliminary damage assessments have been conducted, and interim relief has been provided to over 50 affected families at a rate of Rs. 4000-5000 per family. Efforts are underway to complete immediate relief assistance within one or two days.
The Secretary noted that road blockades have been cleared, with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) assisting in road clearance in Champamura of Sepahijala district. The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has restored power supply to most affected areas, with efforts ongoing to fully restore remaining power lines by the night.
A relief camp has been established at Teliamura RD Block to accommodate seven families, including 23 individuals, with the Khowai District Authorities providing immediate assistance to these families.
Looking ahead, the Secretary assured that assistance would be provided to affected individuals as per the norms of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). Adequate funds amounting to Rs. 55.38 crore have been allocated to all District Authorities to facilitate immediate relief and rehabilitation measures.
