Gala events to mark Rabindra, Nazrul jayanti this year : Sushanta

The birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam will be celebrated this year through various programmes. Sit & Draw competition, photo exhibition, recitation, dance and singing competition, on the spot speech competition, cultural evening and quiz competition will be organized by Information & Cultural Affairs department in association with other departments. A review meeting was organized at the conference hall of ICA department, Head Office, Gandhighat today regarding this. The meeting was presided over by ICA Minister Sushanta Choudhury. He said, nothing compares to Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam in Bengali culture. He hoped that the cultural environment of the state will flourish taking inspiration from them.
The ICA Minister in the press meet said, 161th Rabindra Jayanti shall be celebrated on May 8 and 9. On May 8, Sit & Draw competition will start at 9am, photo exhibition and recitation will start at 12pm, group singing competition will start at 2pm, followed by cultural event at 6pm. Well-known artistes of the state will be performing at the cultural event. These events will be held on Rabindra Bhawan. On May 9, the main programme of Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti will start at 9am through a morning ceremony of paying salutation to the poet at Rabindra Kanan. On the spot speech competition at 11am, quiz competition will start at 2pm, group dance competition will start at 2:30 pm. These events will be held in Hall no. 2 at Rabindra Bhawan. Distribution of awards will be held at 4pm in Hall no. 1 of Rabindra Bhawan where Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb will be gracing the programme as the Chief Guest. Renowned artistes of West Bengal Jayanti Chakraborty, Manomoy Bhattacharya, Devesh Thakur will be participating in the programme.
Birth anniversary of Nazrul Islam will be celebrated at Narul Kalakhetra on May 26. A cultural event will be organized on this occasion at Hall no. 1 of Rabindra Bhawan on May 30. Renowned artistes both local and from West Bengal will be taking part in the programme.ICA Minister said, initiatives will be taken for the participation of artistes of Bangladesh. He hoped that a new message will be imparted towards the development of cultural environment in the state with everyone’s cooperation.
