On Sunday, the famous tourist destination Narkelkunja in the Gondatwisa sub-division hosted the state-level Mango Festival, marking a significant milestone in the development of the state’s horticultural sector.

The festival, which also saw the inauguration of a Farmers’ Knowledge Centre, was attended by Minister for Agriculture Ratanlal Nath, former Lok Sabha MP Rebati Tripura, and other dignitaries. The event highlighted Gondatwisa’s achievements and its emerging importance in mango cultivation.

In Gondatwisa, 212 hectares of land across 15 ADC villages are dedicated to cultivating 22 varieties of mangoes. Among the local varieties, Amrapali, Himsagar, and Rupali are prominent, while exotic varieties like Miyazaki and Haribhanga add to the region’s diverse production. The area’s commitment to mango cultivation has positioned it as a significant player in the state’s agricultural landscape.

The mangoes produced in Gondatwisa not only satisfy the demand within the state, including cities like Agartala, Ambasa, and Dharmanagar, but are also exported to other states. This demonstrates Gondatwisa’s substantial contribution to the broader mango market and its growing reputation as a hub for quality mango production.

During the festival, Minister Ratanlal Nath emphasized the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare’s readiness to support the farmers of this region with all possible assistance. He underscored the importance of collaboration and invited horticultural producers from across the state to visit Gondatwisa to exchange ideas and knowledge with the local farmers. This initiative aims to foster a spirit of cooperation and enhance the overall development of the horticultural community in Tripura.
