Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha received the Sixth State Finance Commission report, outlining recommendations to strengthen Panchayati Raj Institutions, Urban Local Bodies, and TTAADC through fiscal decentralization, improved governance, and balanced development for the 2026-27 to 2030-31 implementation period.
The Chairman of the Sixth State Finance Commission, Abhishek Singh, accompanied by the Member Dr. Pallab Kanti Ghosal and Member Secretary Dr. Akinchan Sarkar, handed over the Sixth State Finance Commission’s report to Chief Minister of Dr. Manik Saha.
The Sixth State Finance Commission was constituted by the Government of Tripura on 7 January 2025 under the provisions of Articles 243(I) and 243(Y) of the Constitution of India.
The primary mandate of the Commission was to review the financial position of the Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies in the State.
In addition, the Commission was entrusted with recommending the principles governing the distribution of financial resources from the State Government to different tiers of Rural Local Bodies, ULBs and TTAADC identifying measures to strengthen local governance and suggesting ways to enhance the financial capacity and operational efficiency of these institutions.
According to official sources, the Chief Minister highly appreciated the Commission’s sincere efforts in preparing the Report through extensive consultations with various stakeholders involving Government departments, Local Self-Government institutions and experts in different fields in the arena of Local Self Government.
He stated that State Government would examine the Commission’s recommendations with due importance and would take appropriate measures to strengthen the system of local self-governance and promote balanced development throughout the State.
The Chairman of the Commission expressed gratitude to officials of Rural Development (Panchayat) Department, Urban Development Department, Finance Department; elected representatives, local self-government institutions and all stakeholders who have been associated with the Commission and extended their valuable support, cooperation and made constructive suggestions during its study.
It is expected that the submission of the report of the Sixth State Finance Commission will set a milestone in strengthening fiscal decentralization in Tripura. It is expected to contribute significantly in improving local governance and advancing inclusive and sustainable development across the State.

The report of the commission is expected to be placed before the Council of Ministers and once the recommendation is approved by the Council of Ministers, the recommendations will be implemented by the concerned departments during the period for 2026-27 to 2030-31.
