A bomb attack on the residence of Tapan Shil, a local committee member of the CPIM in Narsingarh, has sparked widespread political outrage and condemnation. The incident took place on Saturday night, when assailants threw a bomb at Shil’s house, causing significant damage to the property and creating a large hole in the wall.
Shil, speaking about the attack, stated that the assailants used abusive language and threatened him with dire consequences. “My family was terrified by the blast. My daughter was so shaken by the explosion that she fell ill. We contacted the police immediately, but they only showed up the next morning, and no arrests have been made so far,” Shil said. He has accused local BJP activists of orchestrating the attack.
On Monday, a group of CPIM leaders, including Ratan Das, West District Committee secretary; Pranab Debbarma, State Committee member; Sudip Debnath, sub-divisional committee secretary; and Nayan Sarkar, Barjala MLA, visited the scene of the attack to express their support for Shil and his family.
Ratan Das condemned the incident, stating that it reflected the rising lawlessness under the current BJP-led government. “The law and order situation in Tripura is deteriorating under BJP’s rule. It’s time for the Chief Minister to step in and restore the rule of law,” Das said.
Das also criticized the police for their delayed response, accusing them of negligence and inaction despite being notified about the attack immediately. “This attack is an example of the BJP’s desperation to suppress opposition voices. Our resistance to such attacks will only grow stronger,” he added.
