The BJP today said that the manner in which the Election Commission has responded to the baseless and unsubstantiated allegations made by the Congress party reveals the party’s brazen campaign driven by lust for power. Briefing media in New Delhi today, party spokesperson Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi said, It is unfortunate how the Congress is attempting to undermine and disrespect constitutional institutions. He said the Congress party has been completely exposed, revealing their lack of faith in democratic institutions.

Mr. Trivedi alleged that Congress is willing to go to any extent to weaken India’s systems. He said its actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the principles of democracy. Mr. Trivedi said the Congress party owes an apology not just to the Election Commission but to the people of this country for their misguided attempts to undermine the very foundations of Indian democracy.

The Election Commission yesterday rejected allegations levelled by Congress in connection with irregularities in the recent Haryana assembly polls, terming them baseless. In a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, the Commission cautioned the party and other political parties against unfounded and sensational complaints at sensitive junctures like polling and counting days.
