Benchmark domestic equity indices were trading around one per cent lower in the afternoon session today. The Sensex shed 849 points to 76 thousand 561, while the Nifty dropped 228 points to 23 thousand and 940 when reports last came in.
In the broader market on the National Stock Exchange, Midcap 100 index slipped 0.2 per cent, while the Smallcap 100 index was trading 0.1 per cent up a short while ago.
On the sectoral front, IT was the major drag, followed by Oil and Gas and Realty stocks. Conversely, Telecommunication, Power and Healthcare sectors were leading the gains.
