The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has launched an investigation into the alleged involvement of three police constables in human trafficking. Acting on a suo-moto basis after a media report, the THRC identified constables Prashanta Ghosh and Paresh Das of the special branch, posted at Amtali police station, as suspects in aiding human traffickers.
The report revealed that traffickers Shaomin Bhuiyan and Munna Miah regularly transported Rohingyas from Bangladesh into India, where the accused officers allegedly facilitated their transit through the Amtali area to Agartala railway station for further relocation across the country.
Additionally, constable Amir Bhuiyan, stationed at the Ramnagar outpost and a sibling of trafficker Shaomin Bhuiyan, was implicated. In response, the THRC has directed the Director General of Police to conduct an inquiry and submit findings within four weeks. The probe marks a serious step toward addressing human trafficking and alleged law enforcement complicity in the region.
