The Maharaja Bir Bikram airport in Agartala has re-launched its prepaid auto service on Tuesday, after being halted for the last six months. The Transport minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, inaugurated the service and reassured auto drivers that the state government would consider any problems they may face in continuing the service.
Sources suggest that the prepaid auto service is important as the airport is likely to receive the international tag soon, which will increase the number of passengers arriving at the airport. This service will not only ensure the safety and convenience of the passengers but also reduce the hassle of negotiating fares with the auto drivers.
In the inaugural ceremony, Secretary of the Transport department U.K. Chakma, Inspector General of Police (law and order) L. Darlong, Transport Commissioner Subrata Chowdhury, MBB airport director K.C. Meena, and others were present. The service has been welcomed by passengers as it ensures a fair price for their travel from the airport.
Meanwhile, a rate chart has been prepared for the prepaid auto service. Passengers can check the rates at the prepaid auto counter located inside the airport premises. This service will bring relief to passengers who arrive at the airport without prior arrangements for transportation.
The re-launch of the prepaid auto service is a step towards improving the transportation infrastructure in the state and ensuring a better travel experience for passengers.
It may be mentioned here that there were allegations of harassment by the auto drivers of passengers in the MBB airport as they used to even prevent entry of the Uber autos etc. Several complaints were filed which prompted the minister to take the step.
