On Wednesday, Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury chaired a high-level review meeting at the conference hall of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office in Jirania, West Tripura, to assess civic and infrastructural readiness for the grand celebrations.
The meeting brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including elected representatives from local bodies, social workers, senior officials from multiple departments, and law enforcement authorities. The primary objective was to ensure seamless public service delivery during the festive season and to address bottlenecks in ongoing development projects.
Key Issues Discussed
The review session revolved around several crucial aspects of civic preparedness:
-
Uninterrupted power supply: Officials were instructed to ensure continuous electricity throughout the festival days to prevent disruptions.
-
Road and infrastructure repair: Damaged roads, especially those in critical stretches, are to be repaired on priority so that devotees and visitors can travel smoothly.
-
Drinking water supply: Steps must be taken to provide adequate and safe drinking water for both residents and visitors.
-
Fire safety measures: Authorities were directed to strengthen emergency response mechanisms, with fire services on standby to handle any untoward incident.

Placing strong emphasis on public welfare, he noted that all preparations must be completed well ahead of the festival. Chowdhury also reminded officials that citizens’ expectations are higher during major festivals, and lapses in essential services cannot be tolerated.

The Minister also took note of workers engaged under the MGNREGA and TUEP projects, instructing Block Development Officers (BDOs) and concerned officials to ensure that

pending wages are disbursed before the festival. This, he said, would not only help rural families celebrate the festival with dignity but also strengthen faith in governance.
Departments including Water Resources, Social Welfare & Social Education, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Fire & Emergency Services, Forest, Rural Development, and Food & Civil Supplies also presented their progress updates. Issues of drainage, irrigation, law and order, ration distribution, and community welfare were discussed in detail.
